Pet Room and Board for the Holidays

It’s Blog the Change day!

My friend who does PR for Iams just told me about their Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption program. I had to laugh when I heard about it, as Up For Pups and Happy Tails Books has such piddly bank accounts that we are trying to create change with (Hint! Hint! We’ll start taking donations soon!), and I always think about what I would do if we had a big bank account.

Well, I’m assuming Iams has a pretty big bank account, and I’m so glad to hear they’re putting it to good use. Their goal this year is to help place 1.5 million orphaned pets into loving homes this holiday season. How will they do that? Between Oct. 1, 2010 and Jan. 4, 2011, Iams will work with the Helen Woodward Animal Center and 3,500 animal organizations worldwide to help pets find homes. They also have a separate program intended to provide 5 million bowls of food to dogs. FIVE MILLION! Wow!

The Bags 4 Bowls program is a way that people who are not in a position to bring a new dog into their homes can still help. All you have to do is visit the Iams Facebook page and either “Like” or comment there, or you can pick up a specially marked bag of Iams food. Either results in Iams donating one bowl of dog food.

The dates of this special adoption and dog food promotion are Oct. 1, 2010 through Jan. 4, 2011.

Want to learn more about adoption? Iams’ Facebook page has “Adoption Angels,” new pet parents, chronicling their personal journeys of adoption. This is part of Iams effort to educate people about the importance of adoption in addition to hands-on help for the dogs.

My blog, Pet News and Views, is part of Iams Bags 4 Bowls contest. Can you help me with this?
For every comment left Iams will donate 25 bowls of food to an animal shelter. It’s day 3 of my contest and I have just over 200 comments. I want to feed a lot of shelter cats and dogs. The contest on my site runs through October 25. All you have to do is visit Pet News and Views, leave a comment about your adopted or rescued cat or dog. Thanks. Here is the link:
