Children’s Toys Are NOT Dog Toys!
I was just sent an alert by a Dachshund rescue friend regarding a dog who died after eating a stuffed animal. Please take note of this newsletter article, it could save your dog’s life: Last night at agility class, a … Continue reading

A Pet Shop Happy Tale?
I’m glad this pet shop did the right thing for Oliver and that Oliver turned out to be a great family dog. Unfortunately most people don’t have this experience, but their bad experiences have nothing on the horrific lives the breeding dogs suffer. The best thing we can do for dogs like Oliver (and especially for Oliver’s parents) is to not patronize stores that sell companion animals to send a clear message that pet stores are for pet supplies – we can get our dogs and cats elsewhere. Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet
This week is Petfinder.com’s “Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet” campaign. To aid in the effort, I’d like to share a story that brings to light the Black Dog Syndrome (this applies to cats, too). It was featured in Lost Souls: Found! Inspiring Stories About Great Danes: Continue reading

Boris da Bloggeh
I wish my cats could type! I didn’t get to meet Boris at BlogPaws, but I did get to meet his mommy, Kelly, who kindly granted me an interview with Boris, who is a perfect example of the fact that we can ALL lend a hand to rescue causes. You don’t need to walk on two legs to do good deeds – look at Boris! With all four of his paws, he is tirelessly working to help rescues. Continue reading

The Dish on Pet Insurance
I met many wonderful people at the Blogpaws conference last week. One of whom is a rep for Trupanion, a pet insurance company. Since I don’t currently have pet insurance, I was curious about how it works, and I figured you might be, too. Continue reading
Who Says Cats and Dogs Can’t Play Together?
I’ve got to say, getting to know Angie Bailey of Cat Lady Land helped me get back in touch with my inner cat lady! I mean, I love everything about Angie – from her hair to her ability to find humor in everything. She’s a mom, a successful blogger, and she’s got great style, to boot. So here’s my interview with Angie, one of my new favorite cat ladies! Continue reading
Creative Volunteerism at its Finest
I just can’t say enough nice things about the BlogPaws attendees and their efforts. The theme of the conference was “Be the Change,” and I would say everyone there got that memo! Continue reading
Hanging Out at Blogpaws
Up For Pups! launched its first performance this week at the BlogPaws conference in Denver, CO. Despite some technical difficulties, the feedback we received is that everyone enjoyed the performance and “got” the message about puppy mills and volunteering to reduce the suffering. Continue reading
More Craigslist Suggestions
Happy Tails Books published the Mill Dog Manifesto as a free ebook to help people learn about rescue and at the very least recognize the signs indicating that a puppy is coming from a mill and not a reputable breeder. To me, ensuring that people understand the dog breeding industry before acquiring a dog is both and animal rights and a consumer protection issue. Continue reading
